MCAD

In 2013, Professor Dr. M. Farhan Shafique established a group devoted to studying microwave components and technologies (MCAD). The group’s mission is to encourage a culture of research and the development of human resources in the fields of microwave engineering and rapid prototyping. MCAD has trained students and fellows who are now working in prestigious institutions across the globe. We also provide expert advice on a wide variety of topics, from packaging and manufacturing to cutting-edge RF front ends.

Simulation and Modeling Lab

The lab offers state-of-the-art machines with various CAD, CAM tools and Ansys High frequency Structure Simulator for structure design.

The lab facilitates the post graduate researchers for extensive simulation work. A task distribution feature on server machine for fast computing is also available.

The lab offers high quality PCB manufacturing using chemical etching facilities

The lab consists of double sided UV exposure unit, laminator, complemented with bubble etching and spray etching facility. Lab offers prototyping as well as bulk production facility. Double sided PCBs with edge to edge separation of 300 microns and strip width of 300 microns are realizable.

The lab is equipped with high-end measurement facilities.

We have complete range of RF active and passive circuits test facilities from few MHz to 26GHz that involves two Agilent vector network analyzer, three Agilent spectrum analyzers, Agilent Digital storage oscilloscope upto 6GHz bandwidth, Agilent vector signal generator with various standards of modulations, Agilent noise generator, frequency counter, power meters, Anritsu universal test fixture, X-Band waveguide setup, amplifier, power splitter, DC power analyzer, etc.

Antenna Test Facility

This is indigenously developed high-end antenna test facility.

The infrastructure is produced indigenously through various research funds. It is capable of measuring radiation patterns from 700 MHz up to 26.5 GHz with high precision. 3D radiation pattern, group delay, co-polar, cross-polar, efficiency, E and H plane gain patterns are measurable at multiple frequency points. The system also measures complex radiation patterns for diversity analysis.

Rapid Prototyping and Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory

This is a recently established fabrication facility which caters for a number of packaging demands

The facility hosts an 8-axis mini CNC machine along with a mini lathe machine. The setup is complemented by a 3D printer, a 10 Ton heated press, a miter saw, a jigsaw, drill presses, a furnace, a lab oven, a microscope, a very high precision weighing scale, a digital hot plate and a variety of other pertinent equipment complete the setup.

This is a recently established fabrication facility.

It can produce multilayer printed circuit boards using a completely automatic milling machine (LPKF S103), galvanic through hole plating, semi-automatic pick, and place system for components as small as 0201 packages, solder reflow oven, Low-Temperature Co-fired Ceramics (LTCC), screen printing, a soldering station, and other equipment.
